Frequently asked questions.

How long does the tour take?

5 hours

Do we climb lion’s Head?

No, we don’t. We pass the point where the Lion’s Head trail starts but don’t go up it. We follow The Lion’s Head contour path for a short period but for the most part are in a completely different section of Table Mountain National Park, as well on the coastal paths, streets and promenade surrounding the national park.

So why is it called the lion Trail?

When you look at Sea Point from the ocean, with Lion’s Head and Table Mountain behind it, Lion’s Head and Signal Hill form the outline of what looks like a lion. Dutch sailors coined the phrase in the 17th century. The tour start at the ‘“lion’s” back right foot, climb up its rump, loop behind its neck and down to it’s front left paw before finally finishing where we begun, thus forming a chain around the lion’s neck.

how far is it?

We walk for a total of 10km and then E-scooter the last 5km back to the start. The walking section, with two picnic stops, takes just over four hours. The E-scooter section takes around 45 minutes.
